The Welkin
Main Stage
Rural Suffolk, 1759. As Halley’s Comet blazes across the sky, a young woman is sentenced to hang for a shocking crime. But when she claims to be pregnant, a jury of twelve women is gathered to decide her fate. Locked in a room and charged with determining the truth, they must confront not only the case at hand, but the roles they’ve been forced to play in a man’s world.
From the Olivier Award-winning writer of Chimerica, The Children and NSFW, The Welkin is a fierce, darkly funny, and defiantly feminist courtroom drama that crackles with urgency. It’s a visceral exploration of power, belief, and the price of solidarity in a society where justice is anything but blind.
